How I Survived Hotel Life With 5 Children?

How the hell I survived hotel life with 5 children?

In my last blog post, I have an update on this military life…. right? Well, that was two months ago and guess what? We were still in a hotel up until about a week! I know you’re probably asking “how the hell did you survive?” With 5 children at that… I wanted to do a blog with a few things that helped us on our little journey.

First thing first...

Backstory… we only found a hotel room two weeks until we needed to arrive here in Colorado. Every place we called in Colorado Springs were booked weeks out. So, in order to not be homeless, we had to stay an hour and a half away from my husband’s work. Yeah, not fun at all.

Mind you we drove 13 hours with five kiddos — in which that’s another blog post in itself. If you’ll like for me to do one leave a comment below!

Denver

So boom, we were in Denver for a week, it’s a damn blizzard the SECOND day we arrive. No exaggeration, legit snow with no snow outfits handy. Anyways, we had the van packed tight with suitcases and children. I didn’t buy any activities or colors for my children beforehand. What I did was, when we went to go eat at a restaurant I kept all of the colors and activities for the hotel room and sometimes asked for extras. The cool little mazes and coloring were nice when we couldn’t get out due to the snow.

But we couldn’t stay there forever, because that gas was a killller, and that hour away was giving me anxiety of my husband driving there and back in the snow.

Two weeks in,

We found a bigger and better hotel. Depending on your family size, it’s better to have enough space and a full kitchen. You guys know the twins are on the run now and need space to crawl as well as the kids! We had two main beds and a loft upstairs as well as two bathrooms, stove, and a refrigerator. It was extremely great that it also had free breakfast daily then dinner three days out the week! Somethings we didn’t eat, but we ate breakfast almost everyday. This has saved so much money! We had spent some of the time there outside playing at the playground they have there. I also liked doing some photo shoots in our room.

We loved going to different parks, dog parks, and the zoo! At least, every weekend we would try to do something that cost little money or if it did cost money. It would be something for us to really enjoy like on my birthday and Mother’s Day! To my surprise, there’s so much to see and do in Colorado. I even jumped started my photography with my friends here, but looking to expand more.

Movies, food, tablet…

Two years ago I brought my younger two children Amazon fire tablets for Christmas, and loved that when you brought them you also get a free year of Free Time. There’s so many educational games on there that they really enjoy! So if you’re a parent that does not the electronics or feel as if the kids are losing brain cells by being on it then… I don’t know what to tell you! Grab a book!

Another amazing thing we brought was the Amazon Firestick – while the hotel doesn’t have many channels and the freak shows definitely come at night. This has been a lifesaver so I can put on their favorite shows on Netflix or Hulu, and also watch my shows as well. So, if you haven’t purchased one of these, you are definitely missing out! I have linked it below for you to check it out.

Did I already mentioned snacks? Because.. well, what kid doesn’t like snacks? Being cramped in a hotel with no food is not a good idea. So once a week we would go and grab some grapes, bananas, drinks, and little snacks to eat throughout the day. Keeping their tummies satisfied with their favorite shows goes along way. You have to celebrate every accomplishment in a hotel room.

That was a little background and a short story on what I did in the hotel and how I survived. If you have specific questions don’t hesitate to comment below or send me a message on my social media!

love,

Mama V
